Team Renovotec raises £9K for Macmillan

Staff from Renovotec have raised over £9,000 for charity with a Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) Sea to Summit Charity Challenge.

The 13-strong team from across the UK cycled, trekked and kayaked from Caernarfon to the peak of Yr Wyddfa in July, covering a distance of around 23 miles for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The challenge began on the picturesque coastline near Caernarfon, with our intrepid fundraisers setting off on a scenic 10-mile cycle past the historic Caernarfon Castle and through the rolling Welsh countryside.

As the team pedalled into Snowdonia National Park, the group swapped bikes for boots and began the demanding trek to the summit of Yr Wyddfa – the highest mountain in England and Wales, standing at 1,085 metres.

After taking in breathtaking summit views, Team Renovotec descended to Llanberis, nestled on the southern edge of Llyn Padarn. The final leg of the challenge was a kayaking circuit of Llyn Padarn, covering approximately 2.5 miles across its serene waters in two-person, sit-on-top kayaks.

The idea to take on the challenge came from our Technical Director, Jamie Mottershead, who wanted to do something to raise money for the charity that has offered his family so much support over the years.

Jamie said, “Like a lot of people, I have received support from Macmillan following my dad’s passing from cancer in June 2024, and they continue to support my mum through her ongoing treatment. It’s an amazing charity that does so much at the time you need them most.

“The challenge had an emotional connection for me, and I was glad to have the support of the excellent team from Renovotec throughout. Together we helped each other across the finish line and I’m really proud of the amount of money we have raised.”

According to Macmillan, the money raised could pay for a Macmillan Nurse for six weeks, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.

Maya from Macmillan’s Open Challenge Team, said, “We are blown away by the efforts of Team Renovotec for their Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) Sea to Summit Charity Challenge. This is a truly incredible achievement, and it’s only with the unwavering support of our fantastic partners, like Renovotec, that we can continue doing whatever it takes to help everyone with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are.”
